A unique business is set to leave an iconic building in Nuneaton town centre for good. House of Escape has been based in the iconic former Co-op Head Office building since the start of 2020.

But now couple David and Hannah Betts, the brains behind the House of Escape venture, say they have taken the "difficult decision" to leave at the end of next month. The couple have said that while the building they occupy, which includes the grand former Co-op vault, is "beautiful", there are ongoing issues with it that have not been fixed by the landlord.

This has meant that they have not been able to expand and open a further escape room, leaving them with no option but to leave.

In a statement, they said: "Those of you who’ve been here will know how beautiful these premises are. The traditional wooden features are fantastic, and we have felt really privileged to use the building and bring some great experiences to you in the last three years.

"Unfortunately, beautiful old buildings also come with beautiful big problems and there are many in this building. Regrettably, they have not been resolved by the landlords in the last three years which has prevented us from being able to bring out our second room and grow the business as we need to."

They said that they will close their 'conspiracy' room on February 25 and leave the building, but are not closing the business altogether.

"We are not sure yet what the future holds for us, but we are still passionate about bringing you amazing experiences with our own little twists and still hope to do that both for leisure and for training. Watch this space as we work this out," they added.

"We will take some time to regroup in the spring and hopefully bring you some new announcements later this year."

The couple have thanked those who have taken part in their 'Conspiracy' room game and said there is still chance for people to experience the escape room before they close the doors for good.

"We’ve loved meeting you all and are sad that we won’t be able to continue the journey here on Abbey Street, but we hope to see you all again in the future," they said. "Thanks to all our great customers for all the brilliant conversations we’ve had with like-minded people. And a big thanks for all the great hilarious moments we’ve experienced in Conspiracy from the other side of the wall. We will miss it."

Bookings are open until February 25 and more information can be found here.
