Two men were arrested after police apprehended them on foot when they fled a parked car allegedly stolen in Coventry. Police called for back up when checks on a Citroën seen at the Shell petrol station in Birmingham Road, between Hatton and Warwick, showed the vehicle had been cloned and was on false plates.

Officers from Warwickshire Police's Operational Patrol Unit (OPU) believed the car had been stolen in a burglary in Coventry in October last year. "We attended the petrol station and boxed the vehicle in preventing a dangerous pursuit," an OPU spokesperson said.

"The driver attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended and arrested. We also arrested a male passenger from the Citroën. The vehicle and arrested males are linked to six thefts from motor vehicle offences across Warwickshire including Rugby, Kenilworth, Long Itchington and Cubbington since the 16th January this year.

"The driver was wanted by West Midlands Police for a theft from motor vehicle offence. The driver was also disqualified from driving and we found him in possession of Class A Drugs."

The vehicle was recovered from the scene following the arrests early on Wednesday, January 18. Both suspects have now been charged with all the offences. They have been remanded in custody to appear in court.
