Up to 45 new jobs will be created in the city

A brand-new Aldi supermarket will be opening at Central Six Retail Park in Coventry. It will take over the former Outfit store which has been vacant for nearly two years.

Aldi said the development will not adversely affect nearby residents saying that added footfall and goods deliveries will be 'absorbed into the existing movements' of the retail park. It will be located next to Boots and TUI.

Plans show that the development will create up to 45 new jobs. Aldi has also submitted an application for 10 extra servicing hours which will see the store open for longer. It will also provide 'improved choice' for local residents, the company says.

Aldi recently announced it will open 100 new stores across the UK over the next two years. It has also pledged to invest £1.3 billion by 2023 in a bid to further grow its retail estate, as the company continues to push ahead with plans to open an average of one new store every week.

Richard Thornton, communications director at Aldi UK, said: “We're continuing to gain even more customers – with over 60 per cent of UK households shopping with Aldi in the last year. Our focus is on expanding our store estate, making sure Aldi is accessible to as many of these new shoppers across the country as possible.

“Looking ahead, we are excited to provide millions of new customers with access to Aldi's award-winning quality and unbeatable value as we create even more places and more ways to shop with us.”

We're still waiting for the new store at the Alvis Retail Park which was promised long before the first lockdown! :clown:

A thought occurs!

Is the proposed new store just a stalking horse and they eventually plan to take over the erstwhile Fine Fare building when Morrisons goes bust?

The new store is finished but there's no sign of Aldi moving in?

Meanwhile, Greggs have opened an outlet in the neighboring but much larger former Office World building:

Do Greggs know something we don't? :tinfoilhat:

On its way, the last nail in Morrisons' coffin:

Another new Aldi store set to open in Coventry before Christmas

Coventry is set to get a second new Aldi store, just weeks after another opening. The supermarket has confirmed a store will open at Alvis Retail Park before Christmas.

It comes just weeks after a separate Aldi store opened at Central Six retail park. Dozens of jobs were created and the store was opened by Paralympic athlete Libby Clegg on October 5.

The Alvis Retail Park site sits off Holyhead Road, one of the busiest routes into the city.

The number of jobs set to be created, as well as an exact date of opening, have not been shared yet, but Aldi have promised a further update soon.

The announcement came as the brand confirmed 12 new stores are to open across the country.

George Brown, Real Estate Director at Aldi UK, said: “We’re welcoming more and more customers through our doors each week, which is why we’re investing in new stores up and down the country to bring our great value groceries to even more people and meet the growing demand for Aldi.

“Shoppers know they’ll always get more for their money when they shop with us, and we’re confident Aldi’s success will continue to grow.”

There’s been talk of a new Aldi store at Alvis Retail Park for the past few years, with the brand initially submitting its plans to the city council in 2020.

It joins other big name outlets like Morrisons, McDonalds, DFS and Greggs at the site.

When I last saw it a few days ago the interior had been completely gutted, including the mezzanine floor which some Comet/Currys customers may remember?
They will have to go some to get it it finished by Xmas.

This is the scene outside an Aldi store in Holland just before it reopened yesterday after a seven-week refit:

I expect a similar scene in the Alvis retail park when that finally opens.

Interesting that most of the customers are middle-aged or elderly.
