Coventry street at centre of murder investigation eerily quiet after homes evacuated

A Coventry street was left eerily quiet today after a man was found dead inside a car yesterday, Friday November 18. Officers discovered a man, in his mid-30s, had died at the scene in Stoke Aldermoor.

CoventryLive understands the car, where the man was found, has since been taken from the scene. Forensics officers scoured The Coppice last night after putting up a tent at the scene.

A murder investigation has been launched by West Midlands Police. A woman, aged 43, was arrested on suspicion of assault on Friday (November 18). West Midlands Police today (November 19) confirmed that the woman remains in custody for questioning. Investigators are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Residents of a nearby shared house were told their home needed to be evacuated by police and were put up a hotel overnight following the incident.

A nearby resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I was woken up by the police and everyone else had been sort of been evicted out of the houses.

“No, they put us up in the Britannia Hotel. I am not sure whether they are going to put us up again tonight or whether we will be allowed back in.”

He expressed his shock at the incident as he says the neighbourhood is normally quiet. “It used to be rowdy years and years back, but it is normally quiet on this street. It is normally the bottom end of Stoke Aldermoor, that is where all the trouble was,” the resident said.

Another local, who also wished to remain anonymous, said: “He was a known person. I was shocked. It is a really bad area, to be honest, the crime rate is one of the highest in the city. It is crazy nowadays. It is going to get really bad in the future as well.”

Det Insp Jim Mahon, from Force CID who is heading up the investigation, previously said: “Our thoughts are with the family at an extremely difficult time for them.

“We're offering them support and detectives are working on establishing exactly what has happened. We'd ask anyone who has seen or heard anything untoward over the last couple of days in The Coppice area to get in touch.”

Anyone with information can contact West Midlands Police via Live Chat or call 101, quoting log 1891 of 18 Nov.

Police halt murder investigation launched after man found dead in car in Coventry

West Midlands Police have halted a murder investigation into the death of a man in Coventry. Emergency services were scrambled to The Coppice, Stoke Aldermoor at around 1.40pm on Friday after the man was found dead in a car.

Nearby residents were then ordered out of their home and put up in a hotel overnight as forensics officers combed the scene and detectives interviewed a woman who was arrested on suspicion of assault at the scene.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on the man's body yesterday, Saturday November 19, and police have now confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The 43-year-old woman has now been bailed pending further inquiries into what a force spokesman has described as a 'previous domestic-related assault'.

The spokesman added: "We initially launched a murder inquiry, however, following a forensic post mortem exam carried out yesterday, that man's death is no longer being treated as suspicious.
