Thousands braved the rain and packed into Broadgate in Coventry for the city's annual Christmas lights switch-on and opening of the city's Christmas Market. In the run-up to the main event, there were a number of acts on stage to warm the crowd up.

The night was kicked off by LED drumming group SPARK!. Joining them on the evening were a number of local performers including Sandra Godley and the Gospel Collective, Freemen Dance, Belles of the Three Spires, while DJ Santa closed proceedings after the light show and switch-on.

Cllr Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Events, said: "We wanted to do something truly spectacular for this year’s switch on and it was really pleasing to see thousands of people in Broadgate out enjoying this magical event. As a Council, we’re acutely aware that many people are financially struggling right now so we felt it was incredibly important to provide this free, festive event for families to experience.

"I was also delighted that many fantastic local performers were able to take to the stage and showcase their talent. We have a vast number of talented creative people in Coventry and it’s important that we give them opportunities to showcase their talent."
