Police are investigating a harrowing fatal incident at a Coventry train station. Emergency vehicles were dispatched to Canley Train Station just before 1.15pm yesterday following desperate reports of a casualty on the track.

Sadly, the person was pronounced dead at the scene. British Transport Police said two other people might have been on the track at the time.

A horrified passenger on the train told CoventryLive the deceased was believed to be a teenaged girl, though their identity has not yet been confirmed.

The passenger, who recalled how "the train braked hard", added: "I can’t stop thinking about the poor family."

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the person and the circumstances leading up to their death, and officers are appealing for anyone who was at Canley Railway Station, just before 1.15pm.

"Officers believe there may have been two other people on the track at the time, and there were a number of people on the station platform who may have witnessed the incident.

"If you were there, or have any information which will help the investigation, contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting reference 206-051122. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
