Around 8.4 million households are set to receive their first cost of living payment totalling £326 from tomorrow (July 14). The payment is the first half of the £650 promised by the Government to help with the soaring prices of household bills, fuel and food - with the second payment of £324 being issued in the autumn.

Those who are eligible will see the funds land in the bank account where they normally receive their benefits and most eligible claimants are expected to receive this first payment before the end of the month. It comes as energy bills are predicted to hit more than £3,000 by October 2022, The Mirror reports.

In order to qualify for the £650 payment, you will need to be on means-tested benefits such as Universal Credit, Income-based, Jobseekers Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Pension Credit. Those who claim Tax Credits are also eligible but won't receive their first payment until the autumn, the date is yet to be confirmed, with their second payment in the winter.

However this does mean there are number of benefits claimants who won't received the £650 payment. Here is the the full list:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer's Allowance
  • Child Benefit
  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • 'New style' Employment and Support Allowance
  • Guardian's Allowance
  • 'New style' Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Maternity Allowance
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • State pension
  • Statutory sick pay
  • Statutory adoption, maternity, paternity and shared parental pay
You will also not be able to receive the £650 payment if you currently receive Housing Benefit, but no other benefit, as according to The Mirror, HM Revenue & Customs cannot find you to pay you the money. It has instead been advised that people in this position apply to the Household Support Fund.
