It is hidden within a planning application for signage

Nuneaton Royal Mail delivery office's new home has been revealed. The current home of the delivery office in Church Street forms part of the parcel on land that will have to pave the way for a new, almost-£20m library and offices.

It had been rumoured that the delivery office could be moving to a location in Bermuda Park. And this now appears to be true.

A planning application for new signage at land off Hazell Way shows it is for official Royal Mail livery. Also within the application documents for the signage it states: "Construction of new warehouse and distribution depot/ postal sorting office."

The actual proposal that is seeking planning permission is not for the construction of the site but it does mention the new building. It reads: "The erection of two non-illuminated fascia signs and one entrance sign to be erected onto posts (to be erected onto warehouse/distribution centre applied for under application reference 038948).

CoventryLive has contacted Royal Mail for a comment and more information about the new facility. In the meantime, public consultation into the Vicarage Street/Church Street regeneration has now come to an end.

It was launched last month to gauge people's views on the proposals for a new library, office space and 50 new homes.

Details emerge for new Nuneaton Royal Mail depot and sorting office

More details have emerged about the new home for Nuneaton's Royal Mail sorting office. As we reported in our newsletter, the current sorting office in Church Street is set to move to a unit in Bermuda.

This is because the land it sits on forms part of the 'Justice Walk' regeneration project which includes a £20m learning and living zone which will boast a new library, offices and up to 65 homes planned for the Church Street and Vicarage Street area. Its new home is proposed to be on land at Hazell Way, which is off Bermuda Road.

New plans submitted to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council show that a new warehouse and distribution depot/ postal sorting office would be created. There would be accesses onto Bermuda Road and Hazell Way and there would be a new car park as well as bicycle shelter with security fencing and a high-capacity trolley store.

The detailed plans show what and where drainage schemes will be installed within the site to prevent any possible flooding. It also includes details on the loading yard and how vehicles will access and move around it.

A map within the application also shows how the ground floor will be laid out. This includes the public enquiries office as well as admin and toilet facilities for staff and a drying room and mess and welfare room for staff.

The application for approval of details reserved by conditions are now being looked at by planners at the Town Hall. As part of this, there is a public consultation and people can view all of the plans by visiting the council's website, under the planning applications section and search for application number 039426.

The target decision date for the application has been set as April 7.

Royal Mail issues update on new Nuneaton sorting office

Image

Royal Mail has said that work is not yet complete on its new sorting office to serve Nuneaton. It is having to move from its current home in Church Street due to the proposed 'Justice Walk' regeneration project which includes a £20m learning and living zone which will boast a new library, offices and up to 65 homes planned for the Church Street and Vicarage Street area.

This will see the land the office currently sits on, as well as that of the old Wilkos store and Powell House, demolished in favour of a new library and apartments. The current library will also be bulldozed.

The new Royal Mail sorting office will be based in Bermuda village. It is being constructed by the Deeley group on two-acre brownfield site which was formerly part of the famous Stanley Brick Works.

Building work started last in May last year and, in the past week, several reserved matters applications have been made to the planning department at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council in regards to the site in Hazell Way.

CoventryLive asked Royal Mail for an update as well as a planned opening date. A spokesperson said that work remains ongoing with no opening date fixed as yet.

It is known that once the construction work is finished, Royal Mail will then have to fit it out. Once complete, the delivery office will boast an extensive yard and car-parking, with 60 spaces for staff and customers, including two electric vehicle charging bays.

A total of 53 commercial vehicle spaces, including 28 electric vehicle charging points, will be used by Royal Mail’s fleet and the building itself will play home to more than 100 staff.
