Attempted murder arrest after stabbing and fire at Coventry house

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an alleged stabbing and fire in a residential Coventry street. Multiple 999 crews were sent to Station Street East in Foleshill at around 6pm yesterday (Wednesday).

A man was found with stab wounds at the property, parts of which were affected by fire. The 59-year-old was transferred to hospital for emergency treatment after trauma care was carried out at the scene.

Thankfully his injuries were not as serious as first reported and are not believed to life-threatening. A 36-year-old man, understood to have been taken to Nuneaton's George Eliot Hospital as a precaution, has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson, and remains in custody for questioning, West Midlands Police said.

"Both men were known to one another and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident," a spokesman said. "Anyone with information can contact us via Live Chat on our website and quote 20/497420/22."

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it sent a large response to the address after the alarm was raised. A WMAS spokesman said: "Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a critical care car from the Air Ambulance Service with two doctors and a paramedic on board attended.

"Crews found two patients upon arrival. One man had sustained serious injuries and was given trauma care by the team of medics on scene before being conveyed on blue lights to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further emergency care.

"A second man received treatment on scene before being conveyed to George Eliot Hospital as a precaution."

Firefighters from Foleshill Fire Station were quickly able to bring the fire under control.
