Officers enforced section 60 powers - to check anyone suspected to have weapons

Police are investigating a stabbing near The Glade pub in Willenhall. Police cars and an ambulance were spotted outside the pub yesterday (May 2).

Coventry police have revealed very few details about the incident however, on their page on Twitter, the team confirmed they had responded to a stabbing.

They said that 'thankfully' the victim, who has not been identified, did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

In the post, the team explained that, as a result of the incident a Section 60 order was put into place.

This was until 4am this morning (May 3) and gave officers the power to stop and search anyone they suspect to have a weapon.

"The Section 60 is in place in the Binley and Willenhall area following an earlier stabbing, which thankfully isn't believed to be life-threatening," the post said.

"Our priority is to protect YOU the public. If you have any information on gun and knife crime, call us on 101 to report."

The post goes on to explain that the Section 60 was in force across Willenhall and Binley.

"It gives us the power to stop and search people we suspect may be involved in violence involving weapons, without the need to have reasonable grounds," the post explains.

That pub - actually in Willenhall Wood and fairly remote from the rest of Willenhall - has been a magnet for troublemakers ever since it was built.

It was never part of the original estate but somebody later thought it would be a good idea to build a pub between an existing nursery and a children's play area. :clown:

Police hunt after man seen fleeing Coventry stabbing in silver VW

A man was seen fleeing the scene of last night's stabbing in Coventry, police have revealed. West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses after a boy, 17, was stabbed near The Glade pub in Willenhall yesterday evening.

Police say that a man was spotted in CCTV fleeing the scene of the incident in a silver Volkswagen. Police have said that they believed there are witnesses, given the attack happened outside a pub on bank holiday Monday.

The boy was taken to hospital but police say his injuries are not serious. In a statement, police said: "We're appealing for information after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed in Coventry yesterday (2 May).

"He was attacked in Middle Ride, Willenhall, at around 7.45pm but fortunately his injuries are not serious.

"We've reviewed CCTV and the attacker fled in a silver Golf which we believe had other occupants and was on cloned plates. He is understood to be black but we know there were witnesses to the stabbing - which happened near a pub - and they may be able to help our enquiries.

"We'd urge them to come forward as soon as possible as any information could be vital. This can be done directly to us, or via the Crimestoppers charity anonymously."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 7.49pm to The Glade, Coventry to reports of a stabbing. An ambulance, a critical care car from the Air Ambulance Service and a paramedic officer attended. Crews treated one teenage boy on scene who had sustained potentially serious injuries before he was conveyed to hospital for further treatment."

Teenager banned from Willenhall as stabbing investigation continues

A teenager has been released on bail after a 17-year-old was stabbed outside a Coventry pub. The suspect, who is also aged 17, handed himself into Coventry police station on May 3 in connection with the incident outside The Glades pub on Bank Holiday Monday night.

West Midlands Police say that the teen was then arrested on suspicion of assault. He remained in police custody the following day (May 4) for questioning.

Since then the teenager has been bailed. However, a number of conditions have been imposed, including not entering the Willenhall area.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "He's been bailed with conditions, including not entering the Willenhall area of Coventry, as enquiries continue."

As regards the continuing investigation, officers are still trying to trace a silver VW Golf which was driven away from the scene. Officers say that the car, which is understood to have been on cloned plates and have several people inside, is vital to their investigation.

They also still want to hear from anyone who was in the area at around 7.45pm on Monday, May 2. Anyone with information about the stabbing or the silver Golf should contact West Midlands Police via the Live Chat on its website and quote reference number 20/426234/22.

Details can also be passed on to officers via the independent charity Crimestoppers, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111 or visit http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
