Police say the youths fled before officers reached The White Lion pub on Leicester Street

Teens have been spotted climbing onto the roof of a derelict pub in Bulkington. Locals are becoming increasingly frustrated as they claim the youths have been wreaking havoc in the area recently.

Police have been called to two incidents of anti-social behaviour in just over a week. However, the suspects managed to flee the scene before officers arrived on both occasions.

Last month, officers received reports that five people had climbed over the fence of The White Lion pub in Leicester Street to gain entry. Cops rushed to the scene but 'found nobody.'

Yesterday (April 4), youths were spotted on top of the roof of The White Lion pub in Leicester Street. Officers reached the scene in under twenty minutes but despite the quick response, the trespassers had fled.

A local resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, spoke of her frustration about anti-social behaviour around Leicester Court in Bulkington.

She told CoventryLive: "Teens climb on the roof from the rear of Leicester Court to get into the White Lion pub grounds, not the front of the pub. Five were on the roof the other day. Police arrived but they ran off as they heard the sirens miles away."

She said the area has become a 'new hangout for youths' and recently witnessed a group standing outside her flat wearing Halloween masks.

She added that the behaviour is distressing for elderly residents in the area and has called for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to take action. However, the pub is privately owned which means that the owners would have to start trespassing enforcement themselves.

Conservative councillor Richard Smith vowed to take action to disrupt 'unacceptable' anti-social behaviour in Bulkington. He added that he will be raising the issue with the Safer Neighbourhood Team and has urged residents to report incidents to the police or Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

Mr Smith told CoventryLive: "I have seen the reports and can say that the council takes any reports of anti-social behaviour extremely seriously and will act as necessary to deal with unacceptable behaviour in our communities. However, the incidents at the White Lion pub are a case of trespass on private property and as such are a police matter.

"I understand in both instances the police have responded and I will be raising the issue with our Safer Neighborhood Team at our next meeting. I would urge residents to report any incidents of anti-social behaviour to the police or council so that action can be taken."

A lady I know has been talking about taking that place on. I didn't realise it was derelict.

I'd strongly advise against it unless she enjoys working all hours for no reward and has a pile of cash to burn.

Very similar to my thoughts, Dutchman.
