A child was taken to hospital on Friday night after a crash which saw a much-used bus stop destroyed.

The incident happened just after 10.30pm at a stop on Hall Green Road, close to the junction of Windmill Road and Aldermans Green Road.

A woman, who was driving, received injuries treated at the scene and she was discharged. Her passenger, a young girl, had injuries said not to be life threatening. She was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

It is not known how the collision, which only involved one car, occurred at this point, but the impact was sufficient to destroy a bus stop, which has been removed and replaced with a temporary one.

The junction connecting Windmill Road, Aldermans Green Road and Hall Green Road is a notorious one known among locals for being something of an accident hot spot.

West Midlands Police and National Express have both been approached for a comment.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 10.41pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving one car on Windmill Road in Coventry. Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

"Upon arrival we found a woman and a child who were the driver and a passenger in the vehicle. The woman had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. She received self care advice and was discharged at the scene.

"The child had sustained injuries not believed to be life threatening. She received treatment at the scene and was conveyed to University Hospital Coventry for further treatment."
