Police have charged two people after hundreds of cannabis plants were found in the disused Coventry Building Society base in Leamington.

Suspects were seen fleeing across the roof and the fire service was called in to help apprehend them. A crane was then used to ensure that nobody else was hiding on the rooftops.

More than 400 cannabis plants were found spread across three floors in the former bank in Bath Street when officers from the Leamington Safer Neighbourhood Team and Warwickshire Police tasking team executed the warrant on Wednesday (January 19).

The tasking team used specialist equipment to force entry to the premises.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police today (Thursday) said that two men have now been charged in connection with the raid.

Ibrahim Cura, 26, of no fixed abode, has been charged with producing cannabis and criminal damage, and Ilirian Nebiu, 23, of Bath Street, Leamington, was charged with producing cannabis.

Both men will appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday).
