A Coventry thug who blinded his victim in what was described as an “extremely violent” attack on the streets of Leicester has been jailed.

Tadiwanashe Matemadombo, 22, carried out the attack on July 20 last year after he became involved in a fight with a number of people in the Belgrave Gate area of the city.

The early hours brawl left one man with a series of stab wounds to his chest - with the 21-year-old victim lucky to be alive today after losing more than five pints of blood.

The blade used in the savage attack narrowly missed his vital organs.

However, the man, who was revived at the scene, has been left blind as a result of the attack, LeicestershireLive reports.

Matemadombo, of Grantham Street, Hillfields, was arrested by Leicestershire Police the day after the attack and was brought before the courts last week.

At Leicester Crown Court on Friday, January 14, he pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possession of bladed article.

He had previously admitted possession of cannabis.

Matemadombo was jailed for eight years and eight months.

Speaking after sentencing, Detective Constable James Collins, from Leicestershire Police, said Matemadombo’s victim was lucky to be alive.

He said: “The knife narrowly missed the victim’s vital organs and he was revived at the scene. Unfortunately, following the incident he has lost the sight in his eyes so the long-term impact on his life is significant.

“This was an extremely violent attack, witnessed by many people in a public area.”
