Residents woke up to find their vehicles had been vandalised

Residents in Binley and Ernesford have been left fuming after dozens discovered their car tyres had been slashed.

Vehicles on streets across the area were vandalised seemingly at random between 24 and 26 December.

There were so many that a local garage opened on Boxing Day as they had been "inundated" by requests to help with tyres in the area.

Herald Way Tyres LTD took to Facebook on Sunday to address the matter.

A post from the garage read: "Hi all, we have been inundated with calls regarding slashed tyres in the Binely/Ernesford area.

"We are not officially open until Tuesday but are willing to open up if anyone is in desperate need of help.

"We will be opening up from 11:30 until 4. Thanks."

That step was a massive help to people who needed to travel for festivities on Boxing Day and the gesture was met with praise by local residents.

Phillip Smith responded: "Great act - you will get my business in future." Cathy Sanders said: "This is why we should support small businesses".

Police say they have CCTV of the suspected culprit and are "looking into" the matter.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Two people have contacted us to report that their car tyres were slashed on Penarth Grove in the Binley area of Coventry on Christmas Day (25 December). There is CCTV of the suspect and we’re looking into it.

"We understand that other cars may have been damaged in the nearby area and we’d encourage people to come forward and let us know.

"If you live in the vicinity of Penarth Grove and want to report a similar matter, drop us a message via Live Chat at http://www.west-midlands.police.uk 8am - midnight or call 101 anytime. Please quote crime number 20/1989100/21."

I wonder why the term vandal, singular, is being used?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
