The business has come to a 'natural end' the owner has said

A popular Coventry salon hung up its scissors for the final time on Christmas Eve.

Scruples in Allesley has been cutting the hair of locals for four decades but closed its doors for the final time on 24 December.

Salon owner Christopher Ian Neill took to Facebook to share the news last week.

He wrote: "Today marks the end of an era for Scruples. The salon closed its doors on Christmas Eve after over 40 years of serving its clients in and around Allesley Park.

"The last 10 years under our ownership have passed so quickly and we have seen the original team slowly retire and hand over their scissors to the current team.

"Scruples has been a place where many would come in on a weekly basis and catch up on what’s happening and share their social updates.

"We hope it will be remembered fondly by our clients and would like to thank you personally for your support and wish you all the very best for the future."

Speaking to CoventryLive he added: "The place has a lot of history. We bought it off a lady called Sharon who had it for 30 years and we ran it for the last 10 years.

"The business just came to a natural end - the average age of the client base 10 years ago was 70 to 90 and unfortunately in them 10 years clients have passed and have become less mobile to get out.

"We had nine original staff when we took it over and in those 10 years eight of them had retired so everything was at the end of its life span - it was a nice end to be fair."

I've heard a lot of other hairdressers are retiring too, especially those who previously worked beyond normal retirement age.

I bought a set of hair clippers about 16 years ago, they cost me £9. Best money I've ever spent, I'm still using them today. A quick monthly once-over keeps me reasonably well-groomed.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
