A Coventry man has been jailed for attacking a man with a glass and leaving him with 'horrific' injuries in a row over a bank card.

Kevin Cairns was having a late night drink in the multi-occupancy house he shared with the victim when the other man went out to buy more alcohol.

He mistakenly picked up Cairns' bank card from the table, believing it to be his own.

He returned when he realised his mistake, but Cairns accused him of stealing it and attacked him with a glass.

The victim received what police have described as "horrific facial injuries", which have left him scarred physically, emotionally and mentally.

Cairns, 38, of Bryn Road, Paradise, claimed he threw the glass from a distance not intending to cause injury, but he was found guilty of assault by a jury at Warwick Crown Court.

He was sentenced to four years in prison with an extended three-year licence period for wounding.
