Nuisance Nuneaton council tenant's home seized after two-year saga

Neighbours have suffered for years

A nuisance Nuneaton council tenant has seen her property seized after countless warnings over causing anti-social behaviour misery for neighbours.

It was a court judge who awarded a possession order against the tenant Lorraine Evans who lives in Poyser Road

This brings to an end a two-year long battle between the tenant and Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

The borough council said that the prosecution was 'last resort' action after numerous attempts to solve anti-social behaviour issues at the property.

Among these was an injunction order against the tenant's son Lewis Parkes in November 2019, and then varying the terms of the injunction in July 2020.

However, the injunction order was breached, and Parkes was found guilty of the breaches at Nuneaton County Court back in August of this year.

He was sentenced to eight months imprisonment.

But the local authority said the anti-social behaviour continued so the council's housing team applied for possession of the property.

Officers worked with Warwickshire Police Safer Neighbourhoods Team to gather evidence and statements were also obtained from local residents.

At Warwick Combined Court there were three possession trial hearings; one in March, July and a final one in September where the council was awarded a 56-day possession order.

The possession order expired on November 12, which meant that the tenant had to vacate the property on or before this date to prevent an appointment with the bailiff.

The council now has the property back in its possession.

Councillor Clare Golby, cabinet member for housing and communities at the Town Hall, said the council will take action against those who cause misery to others.

“After making several attempts to resolve the ASB issues from this property and ultimately lots of hard work by our Housing Team and partners the property was successfully repossessed by the council.

"Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and If we have to take these measures with anyone else we will.”
