This really isn't very clever.

They need the public on their side, this will simply alienate them. I don't know who is advising them, but they have things very, very, wrong! :fuming: :fuming: :fuming:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Fortnightly Coventry bin collections: when your household waste will be emptied

Coventry residents will have their green-lidded bins collected once every other week starting today.

Bin drivers will now only be on strike Wednesdays and Fridays and this will remain until March 23.

This means those who normally have their household waste collected on a Wednesday, will have it emptied on a Tuesday and those whose bins are taken on Fridays will have them taken on Thursdays.

But which area will have their bins collected when?

CoventryLive contacted Coventry City Council (CCC) to find out who would have their bin collections start this week (Tuesday, January 18 and Thursday, January 20) and who would have them start next week (Tuesday, January 25 and Thursday, January 27).

A spokesperson said they could not provide us with postcodes for the areas which will be collected when and said residents can check on their website - http://www.coventry.govuk/bindays - or can call the contact centre or drop into their local library to find out.

"If the last collection you had before Christmas was recycling then your household waste bin will be collected this week," the spokesperson added.

"This means everyone who usually has a collection on a Tuesday or a Wednesday will be collected tomorrow, Tuesday. And everyone who usually has a collection on Thursday or Friday will have a collection on Thursday.

"If your last collection before Christmas was a household waste collection then your household (green lidded bin) will be collected next week – following the same pattern – collections for Tuesday and Wednesday on Tuesday and for Thursday and Friday on Thursday."

After checking you road name on the council website, if your bins are taken this week (Tuesday, January 18 and Thursday, January 20), your next collections until the strike ends, will be:

  • Tuesday, February 1 or Thursday, February 3
  • Tuesday, February 15 or Thursday, February 17
  • Tuesday, March 1 or Thursday, March 3
  • Tuesday, March 15 or Thursday, March 17
After checking you road name on the council website, if your bins are taken next week (Tuesday, January 25 and Thursday, January 27), your next collections until the strike ends, will be:

  • Tuesday, February 8 or Thursday, February 10
  • Tuesday, February 22 or Thursday, February 24
  • Tuesday, March 8 or Thursday, March 10
  • Tuesday, March 22 (the strike is set to end March 23 so normal collections should take place on Thursday, 24 and Friday, 25)

That makes no sense at all! :fuming:

Just got mine emptied! :yahoo:

None of the neighbours bothered putting their bin out.

No sign yet of the communal bins being emptied or indeed of any caretaker movement.

The communal bins were emptied a few hours later and the fly-tipped rubbish fenced-off, I assume for collection later by a housing association crew.

Since Tuesday's bins were collected today I very much doubt Wednesday's were as well or that Friday's will be collected this Thursday either.

I'm still down for Thursday, which will be 5 weeks since my last collection. How families have managed, I have no idea.

Anger as rubbish bags continue to be dumped on the streets of Coventry

Image

Bags of rubbish are continuing to be dumped on the pavement just down the road from one of Coventry's rubbish drop-off sites.

Bin bags were first spotted on Deedmore Road in Wood End on the evening of January 6 and people have continued dumping them on the side of the road.

One of Coventry City Council's drop-off points is located a few hundred metres away at the Sowe Common car park on Shilton Lane, which connects to Deedmore Road.

Mel Gregory spotted the latest bags which were dumped on Tuesday morning (January 19) and estimates there must be around 40 bags full of rubbish dumped there.

She said: "There was 30 there last time and now there is around 40 dumped on the street - it's just wrong.

"There is no need for it at all."

She has also spotted overflowing bins at Christopher Hook House on Foleshill Road.

Our communal bins were emptied again this morning, less than 48 hours since they were last collected!

I didn't think they were that full but there may have been a good reason for it?

My bin was emptied as per the plan, it wasn't full and I could probably have fitted another week's waste in it. I wonder how long until the next collection?

Slight aside, support for this strike seems to be very divided and polarised, with some quite unpleasant 'discussions' arising on social media.

More Coventry rubbish drop-off sites to open as bin strikes drag on

Image

Two more waste-drop off points will open in Coventry from Monday (January 24) for residents to drop off their rubbish.

With the bin strikes in Coventry set to rumble on for the next couple of months, residents have reported difficulties in getting to the waste drop-off sites.

Coventry City Council has said they are opening the additional two waste drop-off sites to ensure there is an even spread of points across the city.

The new sites are based in Willenhall and Radford, meaning there are now 11 waste drop-off sites in Coventry.

The following ELEVEN waste-drop off sites are now open seven days a week from 8am to 4.30pm (apart from Tom White site):

  • Cheylesmore car park (off New Union Street)
  • War Memorial Park (main car park)
  • Hearsall Common (off Beechwood Avenue)
  • Sowe Common car park
  • Leicester Row
  • Wyken Slough
  • Wellington Street
  • Coventry Community Resource Centre off Aintree Close
  • Willenhall Social Club
  • Telfer Road car park
  • Tom White Waste site off Judds Lane open noon – 4pm Monday to Friday, and 10am-4pm on weekends.
Coventry City Council say so far more than 120,000 cars have visited the nine drop sites already open.

They have confirmed that recycling can be taken to the drop sites, but that garden waste collections remain suspended.

Residents who were not scheduled a collection this week will receive a scheduled household (green lidded) bin collection next week. Residents can double check their collection dates at http://www.coventry.gov.uk/bindays as collections usually on a Wednesday and Friday have been moved to Tuesday and Thursdays.
