Council bosses have issued a plea to householders to stop dumping unwanted Halloween pumpkins in parks across Nuneaton and Bedworth.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has told CoventryLive that it has received a number of reports about the traditional Halloween item being left abandoned in some parks across the two towns.

It has prompted the Town Hall to issue a plea to people to stop, not only because it is unsightly but it can cause illness to some wildlife.

A spokesperson said: "We're urging our residents to dispose of their pumpkins responsibly and not leave them in parks and open spaces.

"Discarded pumpkins will most likely not be eaten and can cause upset and illness to some wildlife, including hedgehogs."

There are places where people can take their unwanted pumpkins - or they can be used in foods such as soups.

Err, I don't think you'll be using a pumpkin for food after it's seen use as a Hallowe'en decoration
