The new regional recycling facility in Coventry will cost £58m to build and fit out.

It is more than £20m more than the original business case, according to a Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council document.

The Material Recycling Facility (MRF) on London Road was originally estimated to cost £34.5m but now that detailed costs have taken place, the full cost has been revealed.

The MRF project between eight local councils including Coventry City Council and Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

As we reported in our newsletter, the borough council has put just over £4m into the project, which will see all of the borough's recycling taken to the new facility in Coventry.

It is in an update on the facility to the borough council's finance and public services overview and scrutiny panel, reveals that it will now cost £58m.

"As a result of actual procurement allowing detailed costs to be identified the overall cost of the facility has increased from the initial business case and will cost some £58m to build and fit out," the report states.

It also reveals when the facility is due to be ready to be used.

"The MRF is on track to be constructed by mid-2023 and operational in autumn 2023," the report states.
