A teenager who smashed his way into an elderly woman’s home – dragging her off the toilet and snatching her bracelet – has been jailed.

Donatus Ratkus, who previously couldn't be identified as he was 16 at the time, broke into the pensioner's home in Cannon Hill Road, Canley, in September 2018.

Ratkus, now 19, was jailed Warwick Crown Court on Monday (September 20) for four-and-a-half years after police managed to link him to the burglary.

He was one of two thieves who chucked a brick through a window during the middle of the day, three years ago.

The thugs began ransacking rooms, turning out drawers, and were on the hunt for cash and valuables when they heard the 86-year-old victim using the toilet.

The pair dragged her from her toilet and yanked a bracelet from her wrist before making a run for it.

Ratkus was arrested from an address in Newey Road, Wyken, seven days after the burglary and detectives found blood at the scene of two more break-ins back in September 2018, which was a match to him.

He was jailed for 27 months for these burglaries on Greens Road, Keresley, and Beake Avenue, Whitmore Park, but couldn't be named due to his age.

Ratkus was later linked to the raid in Cannon Hill Road through phone work and forensics and can now be named as he's been jailed as an adult.

Ratkus, of no fixed address, will be deported to Lithuania when he’s served his sentence.

Detective Constable Chris Parry, from West Midlands Police CID in Coventry, said: “This was a really nasty offence. A defenceless woman was assaulted in her own home and subjected to a terrifying ordeal.

“Ratkus had already been jailed for two other burglaries but we were determined to get justice for this lady and her family.”
