It happened just yards from where another boat caught fire earlier this year

Fire crews were called to a partly-sunken boat on the Oxford Canal in Coventry on Tuesday morning (September 21).

Firefighters received the call at 7.18am and attended the scene just off Aldermans Green Road.

One crew from Foleshill fire station attended.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "At 7.18am, West Midlands Fire Service were called to the Oxford Canal.

"We discovered a boat had taken approximately one foot of water on board and no-one was in attendance.

"Our crews ensured the canal had not been contaminated and left the scene at 7.45am."

While the call was only precautionary, it happened just down the canal from where six crews tackled a house boat fire on April 29 this year.

Large plumes of smoke were captured on film pouring out of the houseboat, the charred remains of which still remain on the canal.

The fire service tweeted at the time: "Red Watch Foleshill @WMFSBinley @WMFSCoventry @WMFSSheldon and @WMFSTechRescue attended a severe fire on a narrow boat on the Oxford Canal this afternoon.

"The first attending crews arrived within 5 minutes. Thankfully nobody was hurt."
