A motorcycle rider ran off, leaving their passenger injured in the street

A passenger suffered a "nasty head injury" after the motorbike she was on hit a van in Coventry - while the rider ran off from the scene.

The crash happened in Jardine Crescent, Tile Hill, at around 2pm on Sunday (September 19) and, as reported by CoventryLive, the road was cordoned off for some time near to the Black Prince pub.

One witness said there was "lots of police" at the scene at the junction of Jardine Crescent and Delius Street.

CoventryLive contacted West Midlands Police on Sunday afternoon and have now received a statement, which reads: "A woman suffered a nasty head injury after a bike collided with a van at around 2pm yesterday (19 Sept) in Jardine Crescent.

"She was riding pillion passenger on the bike at the time and not wearing a helmet.

"The bike rider ran off from the scene. We've recovered the bike.

"The woman was treated by paramedics but later discharged herself from hospital."

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.03pm on Sunday to reports of a road traffic collision involving a motorbike and a van on Jardine Crescent, Coventry. One ambulance attended the scene.

"On arrival, we discovered one patient, the motorcyclist, a woman, she had sustained potentially serious injuries and was conveyed to University Hospital Coventry for further assessment. The driver of the van was not injured.”
