An appeal for information has been launched after a cat was shot and killed in Coventry last week.

The cat was found in Lapworth Road on Friday and was taken to the Bell Green Medivet branch, where an x-ray found that she had been killed after being shot with an airsoft gun.

A spokesperson for the Medivet Bell Green branch said: "It is with a very heavy and angry heart that we have to report a deceased cat, kindly bought in by a member of the public, but who after taking an x-ray, we can confirm has died after being shot with an air gun.

"We have no words for how anyone could do this and just hope that we find the owners so this beautiful girl can be back with her family."

Kelly Shannon, head veterinary nurse at the branch, said: "It has been reported to Cats Protection as they are doing campaigns for this.

"No owner has come forward and she unfortunately wasn't microchipped or wearing a collar."

The incident has also been reported to West Midlands Police.
