Coventry engineering firm Penso Consulting, which worked with Jaguar Land Rover, has been liquidated and around 100 staff made redundant.

Staff were informed the engineering consultancy, based in Woodhams Road, off Siskin Drive, close to Tollbar Island, was being liquidated and that they were being made redundant last Monday (May 17).

An announcement was made by directors and staff were subsequently given a letter containing the announcement and confirming their redundancy.

The letter, signed by managing director Dave Roche and operations director Jevon Thurston-Thorpe, said: “It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that Penso is to be liquidated as a business.

“I am therefore writing to confirm that as a result of this, your position with Penso Consulting Ltd will be made redundant.”

The letter went on to say that the business had been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the global automotive and aerospace industries.

The letter added that the decision had “not been taken lightly” and that all alternatives to liquidating the business had been “taken into great consideration”.

Also that the board of directors “have tried our very best to keep the business trading”.

The letter ended by directing employees to information on claiming statutory payments and thanked workers for their service and contribution to the company.

In June 2016 Penso received £1m from Finance Birmingham to help deliver a deal that created 20 new jobs.

The money was invested in the tools to produce a new Mercedes taxi.

It's rather naughty to point the finger at the pandemic. Penso's business has been deteriorating for a few years now (at least 5) as their accounts show. Also, has Penso Holdings (and the other subsidiaries) been liquidated or is it just Penso Consulting?
