"Man suffers serious head injury in Coventry gang fight"

Armed police were called to the scene on Monday night



A man sustained a serious head injury and a number of people were injured in a Coventry gang fight last night.

The fight took place in Aldermans Green Road, Coventry, shortly after 8pm on Monday (April 26).

It prompted a huge emergency services response with armed response officers in attendance.

West Midlands Police said that the dispute involved two groups - who are thought to be known to each other - and that a number of people were injured.

One man, who West Midlands Ambulance Service said was in a “critical condition” after being assaulted, was taken to hospital.

Three ambulances and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Critical Care car attended.

There was a heavy police presence at the scene this morning (Tuesday, April 27), with police incident tape cordoning off a house in Aldermans Green Road and a blue forensics tent in the front garden of the property.

Despite suffering what police say was a “serious head injury” the man injured in the dispute was discharged from hospital this morning.

A police spokesman said two men had been arrested and remained in custody and an appeal was made for witnesses to come forward.

One eyewitness who lives near the scene told CoventryLive: "I heard the sirens and saw the flashing lights.

"There were a load of police cars, - about 20 police officers with guns."
