Rolls-Royce Motor Cars delivered its highest ever first quarter sales figures in its 116-year history this year.

Showing that a pandemic is no detraction for well-heeled motorists after their next Rolls, the luxury car maker delivered 1,380 cars to customers in the first quarter.

This is 62 per cent more than over the same period a year ago, and even beats the group's previous first quarter sales record set in 2019.

Rolls, which sells its motors all over the world, said demand for its models had been 'extremely buoyant', with the Ghost model launched last year a buyer favourite.

The super-luxury SUV Cullinan has also proved a hit with customers, and the company said its order books for all models stretched 'well into' the latter half of the year.

Rolls said its order book for bespoke cars had also reached 'record' levels in the quarter, with an ever growing number of wealthy customers wanting a personalised car to use or be driven around in.

Bespoke motors delivered this year include the 'Koa Phantom' and 'Iridescent Opulence Phantom. All 20 of the Phantom Tempus Collection cars have been allocated to customers worldwide, Rolls added.

Across all its operations, the group said sales had been notably strong in China, the US and Asia Pacific.

When I did an Inst Motor Industry course many years ago, it was demonstrated that time after time, high end marques would sell in hard times. - Didn't mean that they were profitable, though. ;)

I was thinking more in terms of the buyers than the sellers.
