Non-essential traders are gearing up to return to the market

Coventry Market have announced their re-opening plans for April 12.

From Monday, all non-essential shops can open their doors to the public.

The market has been open throughout the pandemic, but this has been limited to essential trade.

Now, the market's independent traders that were deemed non-essential can all re-open and get back to business.

This means traders selling things like home goods, clothing, sweets, cards, and crafts can all return to the market hall.

A lot of the non-essential traders had moved to click and collect and home delivery models where possible, but Monday is likely to be a welcome return to normality for many.

We heard from candy retailers Maverick Flavours in February, who said they had to "start again" to survive until non-essential shops would return.

Many have struggled to survive and navigate through the various lockdowns, others said they have been left in a 'dead zone' as city centre footfall has reduced dramatically.

Assistant market manager Asher Hastie said: "We would like to welcome back all our non essential traders and encourage the public to support the small businesses in Coventry any way they can during this difficult time.

"We would also like to say thanks to our traders who have been open during the lockdown, they have been a credit to themselves in how they have handled a very difficult situation with the restrictions. Small businesses have been the hardest hit during this pandemic.

"All businesses in the town centre including the market need the public's support."

Coventry Market will return to normal operating hours. These are:

Monday to Wednesday 8am - 5pm

Thursday 8am - 2:30pm

Friday and Saturday 8am - 5:30pm

I remember last time round not all market stalls reopened and some of those who did were sorry they bothered.

The same could be true again?

I have a feeling that all this 'grand opening' is going to be a bit of a flop.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

It's only a matter of time before we're back in lockdown.

Having seen the queue outside The Oak for their 00:01 opening, nothing seems so sure.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
