Council bosses have apologised for the inconvenience caused by 'failures' in its recycling bin collections across Nuneaton and Bedworth.

Yesterday some householders in parts of Nuneaton did not have their brown-lid wheelie bins collected and were told to leave them out today (April 1) for collection.

Glen McGrandle, head of waste and transport at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, has admitted that there have been 'occasional lapses' in the service over recent months.

He apologised for the inconvenience caused and said the issues had been raised with the contractor behind recycling service - Coventry City Council.

As we reported previously, the deal for the city council to take over the brown-lid collections was struck in 2018.

“We have had a small number of instances of missed bins in recent collection rounds, which we have raised with our contractor," Mr McGrandle said.

“The pandemic has impacted on staff teams, and that has resulted in occasional lapses in the service this winter.

"Crews follow up reports of missed collections the next day wherever possible. It is quick and easy to let us know of missed collections by phone or through our website, so please help us provide the very best service we can.

"Aside from this, we are seeing far more material recycled, particularly cardboard as people have more goods delivered at home, and the number of households we serve is growing, too."

He concluded: "We apologise for the inconvenience caused by failures in the service, and ask residents to bear with us while we work with the contractor to resolve these issues as soon as we can."

Anything that involves CCC is sooner or later going to fall over.
