MotoFest Coventry is to return with new dates and a new format after last year's even was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

For 2021, MotoFest Coventry will switch from its traditional date on the first weekend in June, to a new ‘MotoFest Month 2021’ programme, stretched out across four individual MotoFest Coventry weekends, taking place from 17 – 18 July to 7-8 August.

Each of the four weekends will be themed, with the initial launch weekend on 17 and 18 July titled ‘Your Future Moves’ and based around innovation and technology.

While the first weekend’s focus is future technology, there will be a step back in time with an ‘Italian Job’ themed spectacular set to launch the festivities.

The July 24 and 25 weekend will go full throttle for two wheeled fans, with ‘Bike Weekend’ set to feature a ‘Ride In’ and dynamic and static displays as part of the programme.

The July 31 and August 1 weekend is ‘Motorsport and Performance Weekend’, featuring a mixture of dynamic and static motorsport displays taking place around the city centre. While there will be no full ring road circuit this year, there are plans for a drift arena and dynamic motorsport displays.

The final weekend on August 7 and 8 is the ‘Classic and Performance Car Weekend’. Both days will feature static displays in Broadgate and themed events including a classic car rally taking in Coventry and the surrounding Warwickshire countryside.

Across all four weekends, there will be various motoring themed activities and events including a week-long programme of drive-in concerts located at Millennium Place.

James Noble, Coventry MotoFest Coventry Festival Director, said: “We are delighted to announce the return of MotoFest Coventry in 2021.

“As a result of the need to comply with the COVID19 regulations on large scale crowds at single events, MotoFest Coventry 2021 will look different to previous years. However, the festival ethos, particularly the commitment to hosting a celebration of the city’s motoring heritage, will remain the same.

“The new format will give us four MotoFests instead of the usual two-day festival, and the themed weekends will ensure, that whether you are a two wheeled or a four wheeled fan, there will be something for everyone.

“We plan to launch with a spectacular ‘Italian Job’ themed stunt that will blow the doors off for fans of the film and motoring enthusiasts alike. This is one of many exciting new additions we have in 2021 and we look forward to revealing more details in the coming weeks.”

MotoFest Coventry weekend cancelled after failing to secure sites

MotoFest Coventry has been forced to cancel one of this summer's weekend events after struggling to secure locations for it.

The Motorsport and Performance Weekend was scheduled for July 31 and August 1, with plans for a drift arena and motorsport displays among the programme of activities.

Some of the planned sites have become temporary vaccination and testing centres and so were off limits to organisers.

James Noble, MotoFest Coventry festival director, said: “It’s with great reluctance we have to announce the cancellation of the Motorsport and Performance Weekend.

“It’s a decision that we have worked incredibly hard to avoid having to make but the logistical challenges in finding suitable sites this year to host dynamic motorsport displays has proved too much.”

Mr Noble confirmed the weekend will return "bigger and better" in 2022.

Other MotoFest Coventry events are still going ahead this year as planned.

The new ‘MotoFest Month 2021’ programme will be stretched out across three themed MotoFest weekends, taking place from July 17-18 to August 7-8.

The first weekend will highlight the region’s innovations with the opening of a new exhibition at Coventry Transport Museum, called ‘Our Future Moves’.

Weekend two will feature static displayers for Motorcycle Weekend.

The final weekend will be MotoFest Car Weekend. Both days will feature classic cars and showcase over 100 vehicles.

There will be a special 125-year anniversary celebration of the city’s famous Riley, car and bicycle manufacturer brand.

MotoFest Coventry is the largest free motoring festival in the UK and is free for everyone to enjoy across a whole month.
