MORRISONS is facing a backlash as it unveils changes to its More Card points system. The system will go entirely digital, leaving fans angry about the knock-on effect to customers, especially the elderly.

The supermarket is scrapping the cards, no longer producing them as of May 10. The Morrisons More Card is moving to a digital format and away from a "points to pounds system".

The supermarket is scrapping the cards, no longer producing them as of May 10. The Morrisons More Card is moving to a digital format and away from a "points to pounds system".

With the new more app, customers can earn five more points for every £1 they spend in-store and online, including at Morrisons cafés.

They will earn five more points per litre when they buy fuel at Morrisons.

With the Morrisons Fivers offer, shoppers receive a £5 More voucher for every 5,000 points they earn.

But there are many who do not welcome these changes.

One Twitter user said: "Morrisons ending the More Card is okay for the young.

"What about older generations who have not got smartphones or are unable to use the app.

"Just put a sign up saying elderly unwelcome."

Another said: "I think it's a bad move for @morrisons to scrap its 'More' card in favour of a phone app.

"Not everyone is a technological wiz-kid. Especially not pensioners such as my parents. One of which doesn't even have a smartphone.

"Don't change something that isn't broken."

Another said: "I just got an email about how your More Card is changing.

"My mother isn't digital savvy, she doesn't have an online account so how can she still get the offers she usually gets?

"She regularly shops at Morrisons so does this mean she is going to miss out on others?"

One wrote: "So how does my 70yo dad download the app? (...) Seems Morrisons forgot the older generation don’t all know how to use or have smartphones.

"Letter says his more card won’t be valid anymore from March."

In fact, a petition has been launched to try and reverse the decision, created by a Morrisons employee.

The employee wrote: "As a Morrisons employee, I see daily the amount of elderly customers that use the card and save the points up year round to use for Christmas and other celebrations.

"Also the push to move exclusively to a mobile phone app may not suit the older generation who are sometimes (not always!) not tech savvy.

"I believe this is a severe mistake and needs reversing ASAP!"
