A driver has been jailed after a collision in Coventry which killed a motorcyclist.

On June 13 2018, Ionut Alexander Botezatu cut a corner at a junction in Aldermans Green, colliding with biker Mark Jackson.

Botezatu, 30, turned on to Hall Green Road from Almond Tree Avenue at around 6.30pm in his Ford Mondeo when the incident occurred.

Despite a passing nurse tending to 54-year-old Mark to try and resuscitate him, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Police previously reported that Mark was from the Tile Hill area of the city.

Officers arrested Botezatu, of Fynford Road, Radford, at the scene and he pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving.

On Friday (March 19) he was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court to 16 months in prison and given a 44-month driving ban, with an extended retest before he is allowed back behind the wheel.

In a previous tribute, Mark's family said: “Mark was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend who will be greatly missed by our entire community.

"He was a wonderful man who always rushed to help anyone who needed him and we are utterly devastated by our loss."
