The Market Place building is on the market
Changes will be made to a Grade II listed building in Nuneaton town centre.
Barclays is preparing to move out of its grand Market Place base which is currently being marketed for let.
But the bank, which occupied the building for years, has to make some changes before it leaves.
As the building is Grade II listed, it has had to apply for special permission to remove its branding.
Within the listed building planning application to Nuneaton and Bedworth it explains how the works will be carried out and will preserve the building's famed features.
"The site, Barclays Bank, 7 Market Place, is a Grade II listed building. It was built in 1896 by Messrs Wood and Kendrick," the application reads.
"It is a three-storey corner building following an L-plan design enclosed by an almost continuous run of three-storey buildings. The main materials used for the site are red brick with terracotta dressings and slate roof hidden by parapets.
"As a corner building, the site has a very prominent position within the marketplace streetscape. The entrance elevation is designed to be more elaborate and substantial as it faces the marketplace. The features include moulded ten-panel double-leaf doors, elaborately moulded round arches with dentil cornices, strongly moulded string course, and elaborate parapet.
"While the elevations facing Bridge Street and Coventry Street are simple in comparison, this design is very typical for commercial architecture of the late 19th century. Likewise, the latter addition on the right attached to Coventry Stret is a lower and plainer modern insertion designed to reflect the original fabric."
The application is now being looked at by members of the council's planning team. The target date for the decision is April 20.
In the meantime, work is ongoing for the new home for Barclays - at the Queens Road front entrance of the Ropewalk Shopping Centre.
Now the unit, which was also previously home to Specsavers, will now welcome the bank in April.
It has been stressed to customers that it will not officially open in its new home until the start of May.
