A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder



A man has died and a woman is critical in hospital after a double stabbing in Coventry.

The emergency services were called to Waveley Road this morning (Thursday, February 25), at around 11.20am.

On arrival, two people were found with serious injuries.

One victim, a man in his 30s, was treated by ambulance crews but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim, a woman, suffered serious stab wounds to her neck and leg.

She has been taken to hospital where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

West Midlands Police has confirmed that a 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The arrest was made at around 12.40pm.

Waveley Road remains cordoned off at this time while police carry out enquiries, including door-to-door chats with residents.

Extra officers are also on patrol in the local area in a bid to reassure residents.

Man killed in Coventry knife attack named by police



Police have named the man who died after being stabbed in Coventry yesterday (25 February).

Mark Hoof, 36, was killed after being stabbed in an incident on Waveley Road.

A 46-year-old woman was also suffered stab wounds to her neck and leg. She was taken to hospital and her condition has been described as critical, but stable.

West Midlands Police launched a murder investigation following the incident. The scene was was sealed off with officers carrying out house to house and CCTV enquiries.

A 36-year-old has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody today.

Det Insp Jim Mahon, from the force's homicide department, said: "This is a really tragic case but our investigations are moving swiftly. We have one man in custody and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to this crime.

"The families of both victims are understandably devastated and have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time. They are being supported by our dedicated family liaison officers and our thoughts are with them.

"We continue to encourage anyone with information to contact us as a matter of urgency and anyone with dash cam footage who was driving around Waverley Road, Northumberland Road and Holyhead Road in the Spon End area of Coventry between 10.30am and 12.30pm."

Neighbour charged with murder over fatal stabbing in Coventry

West Midlands Police have charged a man with murder following a double stabbing in Coventry on Thursday (25 Feb).

The incident left 36-year-old Mark Hoof dead and his partner in a serious condition in hospital.

It’s alleged Ryan Willden attacked the pair at his home address in Waveley Road, Coventry, at around 11.20am.

Mr Hoof was pronounced dead at the scene while a woman, aged 46, was taken to hospital with wounds to her neck and leg. She remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Police have said the victim and his attacker were neighbours at the same multi-occupancy address in the Spon End area of the city.

Willden, aged 36, was last night charged with one count of murder and one of attempted murder and is set to appear at Leamington Magistrates Court this morning (27 Feb).

Detective Inspector Jim Mahon from the Homicide Unit said the scene in Waveley Road will continue to be held for several days for a detailed forensic examination – and that CCTV enquiries are also progressing.

Face of Coventry killer who stabbed friend to death and injured his girlfriend in violent rampage



A Coventry man killed his friend and then launched a violent attack on his girlfriend after storming into their bedroom while they were asleep. Ryan Willden moved into a shared house in Waveley Road with Mark Hoof and Mark's girlfriend, who had taken him under their wing.

But he then barged into their bedroom as they slept on February 25 last year and began what West Midlands Police have described as a 'dreadful, unprovoked' attack. He stabbed Mark, 36, a number of times as he tried to get away and then turned his attention on Mark's partner, stabbing her in the neck and leg.

The 46-year-old woman fled for her life, climbed over a garden fence and raised the alarm at a neighbouring house. She was given initial first aid as emergency services rushed to the scene.

Mark was tragically declared dead at the scene and his girlfriend has been left with permanent nerve damage in her neck and limited mobility as a result of the ferocious attack. Willden, 38, was then arrested and charged with murder.

He pleaded not guilty throughout the investigation claiming he was trying to break up a fight between the couple. But on the first day of the trial at Warwick Justice Centre, Willden of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Mark and today (November 15), he was found guilty of the attempted murder of Mark’s partner.

Willden will be sentenced for his crimes on January 20, 2023.
