The city has been placed under the most severe level of 'very high alert'Coventry will be in Tier 3 when the national lockdown ends on December 2.
The announcement was made this morning by the government and means that the city will be under the most severe restrictions, labelled 'very high alert'.
Coventry had entered the national lockdown living under Tier 2 restrictions under the local lockdown rules.
The city's infection rates has fallen from a high of 285.85 per 100,000 in the seven days to November 14, to 212.91 in the seven days to November 19, giving some hope that Coventry would return to Tier 2.
But today it has been confirmed that will not be the case.
In Tier 3, indoor entertainment, hotels and other accommodation will have to close, along with all forms of hospitality except for delivery and takeaways.
Mr Johnson added that he is "very sorry" for the "hardship" that such restrictions will cause business owners.
There will also be no mixing of households allowed indoors or at most outdoor venues, apart from support bubble.
Everyone who can work from home should do.
Gyms and indoor leisure facilities will be able to open, but no group classes will be allowed.
