Police found almost 200 vehicles left unlocked during an operation across parts of Nuneaton.

Members of Nuneaton and Bedworth Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) carried out a vehicle crime operation aimed at increasing awareness of vehicle security last night (November 19).

They focused on the Nuneaton East areas - Weddington, St Nicholas Park, Horeston Grange and Whitestone - and tried vehicle door handles throughout the evening.

Out of a 2,684 vehicles 157 vehicles were found to be open and insecure.

Officers passed on advice to the owners about the importance of locking their cars.

A post on the Nuneaton and Bedworth Police page on Facebook said: "This operation was aimed at raising awareness and providing crime prevention advice within the local community.

"We urge everybody to keep their vehicles and belongings secure at all times."

While carrying out the late night patrols, officers spotted a wanted male who attempted to evade them.

They arrested the man, who has not been identified, and he was taken into custody.

He will remain in police custody today (November 20) before he can appear before the next available court.
