Specialised supported living apartments could be built on the site of a former social club in Coventry.

The social club on Henley Road was formerly used by Broadstreet Rugby Football Club but is now deemed “surplus to requirements”, applicant HB Villages Development Ltd said.

A new two-storey block with 19 self-contained one-bedroom apartments is planned to provide “high quality specialised accommodation for adults with disabilities”.

“The residential accommodation is specifically designed for vulnerable adults who may need occasional support in their daily lives,” the firm said in planning statements to the council.

“The aim is to help these vulnerable people lead an independent life in good quality, well-equipped accommodation with access to on-site support as and when required.”

Staff will be available on a 24-hour basis to provide support to residents.

Each apartment will be fully self-contained with a separate living area, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom, and modified to suit the needs of residents.

Apartments will be fully accessible with shower rooms provided as wet rooms, kitchens equipped with adjustable work surfaces, and full nurse call systems.

The scheme will be accessed via a private driveway leading from Henley Road and include 31 car parking spaces primarily for staff.

An application was validated by the city council at the start of November with a decision expected early New Year.
