Teen who 'terrorised' community handed 24 month detention order

A teenager who 'terrorised' local communities has been handed a 24 month detention order.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons but whose address is listed as Coventry, appeared at Coventry Magistrates youth court on Thursday (November 12).

He admitted 31 different charges, some of which were related to a police chase in parts of Nuneaton on Tuesday (November 10).

Among the 31 he admitted to were:

  • 2 x theft of motor vehicle (30/10/2020 – Motorbike stolen from Dugdale Street, Nuneaton and 10/11/2020 – moped stolen from Leamington railway station
  • Use threatening / abusive words / behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress on 04/10/2020 in Nuneaton
  • Conspiracy to steal from another on 28/10/2020 at the Pingles Leisure Centre Nuneaton
  • Theft from motor vehicle on November 10
  • Conspiracy to steal a motor vehicle on 29/09/2020 in Ramsden Ave, Nuneaton
  • Dangerous driving on November 10
  • Driving without insurance on November 10
  • Failure to stop on November 10
  • Driving without a licence on November 10
As a result of the guilty pleas, he was given a 24 month detention order.

He was also sentenced to a four month detention to training order to run concurrently.

Inspector Dave Williams from the Nuneaton Safer Neighbourhood Team said his detention should bring an end to the trouble he brought to local communiities.

"Hopefully he will use his time in detention to think about his actions and the impact they have on local people, and consider turning his life around.”
