The deputy cabinet member for public health and sport at Coventry City Council has resigned from his role after photos emerged of him breaking public health rules at a restaurant the night before national lockdown.

Cllr Rois Ali was pictured sitting with friends from different households at an Indian restaurant in Coventry hours before the country was plunged into a second lockdown on Thursday.

At the time, Coventry was already in ‘high’ Tier 2 restrictions which banned the mixing of households in indoor settings such as pubs and restaurants as the city's rate of coronavirus cases surpassed 200 per 100,000.

In photos posted by friends on social media, Cllr Ali was pictured with two groups mixing with up to seven different individuals in breach of rules, with the caption: "Alhamdulillha enjoyed a Delicious meal [...] in Coventry before the Second Lockdown tomorrow...".

Anyone caught mixing with people from outside their household or support bubble could be handed a £100 fine under UK law.

The Labour councillor for Cheylesmore is the third councillor at the authority to resign his cabinet member role for Covid-19 rule breaches.

Well it cant be that much of a pandemic for so many Coventry councilors and others caught braking the rules as well as mps . I wonder if it was small pox which was also spread by airbourne how many of these in control would brake the rules I am sure they would go into hiding never to be heard or seen.

Not the first time this muppet has thumbed his nose at the rules, is it?
