A thug threw a lit firework at a woman in Nuneaton before it exploded causing serious injuries.

The victim, in her 30s, remains in hospital today being treated for potentially life changing injuries to her face and legs.

She was attacked with the explosive in Meadow Street, Nuneaton, last night at around 8.10.

It is believed the attacker was wearing a black hooded puffer jacket and black face mask.

He fled in the direction of the town centre.

Detective Inspector Carl Buckley from Warwickshire Police said: “We realise this incident will cause concern to the local community as this was a particularly nasty incident which has left a woman with serious injuries as a result. We are however treating it is an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community."

It seems she was:

Breakthrough in investigation after firework thrown at homeless woman

Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in connection with a horrific firework attack on a homeless woman.

The woman, in her 30s, suffered serious injuries to her face and legs when a lit firework was hurled at her in Meadown Sreet and it exploded in her face.

Police have now arrested a 51-year-old man from Nuneaton on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

He was taken into custody and questioned about the incident and has now been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at 8.10pm on Thursday, October 29.

A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said: "Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could help with enquiries is asked to report this via our website or by calling 101 quoting incident number 320 of 29 October."

Details can also be passed on by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.

Ah, I see!

I get the impression the assailant was known to the victim and specifically targetted her.
