"Man slashed in face as he opened the door to masked attacker"

A man in Coventry suffered serious face and neck injuries after a doorstep attack by a masked man.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was slashed with a weapon after answering a knock on the door of a property on Queen Mary’s Road, in the Foleshill area of the city.

Paramedics attended the scene, treating the man for serious slash wounds to both his face and neck before taking him to hospital.

It is expected that he will be discharged later today.

According to West Midlands Police, the offender has been described as an Asian male, around 5"7 in height, and of slim build.

He was said to have been wearing a face covering.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident - which happened at around 8.15pm on Sunday (October 18) - the attacker ran off along Queen Mary’s road and into Pennington Way.

Detective Sergeant Stew Lewis, from West Midlands Police 's force CID, said: “This was a brutal attack on a young man leaving him with serious injuries.

“We are appealing for anyone with information about this incident, or who witnessed a man matching the description in the area at the time, to contact us as soon as possible.”
