Coventry's coronavirus infection rate has soared above rhe national average.

Latest Public Health England Coronavirus dashboard data shows the city's 'R' rate is 173.07 per 100,000 people.

This is above the national average of 136.4 cases per 100,000.

The latest stastics are from October 10 to October 16, so with cases continuing to rise in the city it could now be even higher.

Yesterday (October 19), the city's positive cases rose again with another 96 added to statistics..

This brings the total number of cases in the last seven days to more than 700 - a 41.7 per cent rise on the previous seven day period (October 6 to October 12).

The average icoronavirus nfection rate for Warwickshire currently stands at 102.26 per 100,000 people, which is below the national average.

But one area of Warwickshire, Warwick, is almost at the national average, with an infection rate of 130.78 in between October 10 and 16.

Others are creeping towards the 100 mark too.

Rugby's recorded rate for the same time period is 97.31.

While in Stratford it is 94.54 per 100,000 population.

North Warwickshire's stands at 93.47 per 100,000 people.

Nuneaton and Bedworth's infection rate is recorded as 87 per 100,000 population.

Cases across the county are also rising, so much so that Dr Shade Agboola, Warwickshire County Council Director of Public Health, is strongly advising that residents do not mix indoors with anyone they do not live with, except for close friends or family who are part of their support bubble.

She has said that unless people start sticking to the rules, the county could end up in the 'tier 2' alert level, with tough lockdown restrictions.

This is coronavirus cases, not covid specific.

Coronavirus covers the common cold and flu. Don't we expect a rise in these at this time of year?

I find the scaremongering that is going on to be very distasteful.

WRONG!!! WRONG!!! WRONG!!! It is COVID19 specific and does NOT include seasonal flu cases!!

The diagram shown in the Coventry Telegraph article is very obviously snipped. If you can be bothered to go to the original source, it's clear that it specifically refers to lab-confirmed COVID19 cases. Here is the same graph updated with more recent data and shows that the situation in Coventry has continued to deteriorate since 16th October. Coventry is now on par with Solihull and so speeding towards Tier 2 lockdown in the very near future. At this rate, Coventry will be in Tier 3 just in time for Christmas.

Martin, that site confuses coronavirus with covid.

The two are not interchangeable!

The tern may be confusing but the nomenclature is correct - see https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/technical-guidance/naming-the-coronavirus-disease-(covid-2019)-and-the-virus-that-causes-it for an explanation.

Which does not alter anything. The terms are not interchangeable despite what WHO might say. Covid is a coronavirus, but all coronaviruses are not covid.

Human coronavirus name Illness
SARS-CoV-2 COVID-19
SARS-CoV Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)
MERS-CoV Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)
HCoV-NL63 Usually mild respiratory illness
HCoV-229E ditto
HCoV-OC43 ditto
HKU1 ditto

I personally would nt trust any thing the WHO says Rebbonk the head man of the WHO has no qualifications they diagnosed an American nurse as erratic when asked for their diagnosis by a specialist in America which the specialist did nt believe them so he did more of his own tests she had a rare disease which was killing her. Besides that Bill Gates money went into the WHO I ve read he owns it all also after Event 201 on the pandemic he carried out in 2019 he to is questionable also he is being investigated over charity money. More near the truth is to look at Agenda 21.

Here is another Irish lady running for government stating there is no pandemic .
