Fortunately the victim, a man in his 70s, was not injured but was left extremely shaken as a result of his ordeal.

Detectives say the suspect forced his way into the man's house in Ivanhoe Avenue in the early hours of this morning (October 14).

He then assaulted the elderly man before removing a silver cigarette case.

The suspect, who left in an unknown direction, has been described as white, around 6ft 6in tall, of a muscular build with dark hair.

He is understood to have had his face covered during the incident.

Detective Sergeant Jenny Baker is heading up the investigation to catch the suspect and is appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

"Enquiries are currently ongoing and we are keen for anyone who saw the incident to come forward," DS Baker said.

"We would also ask for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area or who has information, which would help with enquiries to please get in touch.

"Any details, no matter how small, could be important in our investigation.”
