Police are asking for the public's help to find an arsonist who poured accelerant over a van in an arson attack in Coventry.

CoventryLive reported on the fire at the time after being given footage of the culprit targeting the Ford Transit which went up in flames in Thompsons Road, Keresely End.

As we reported, the van was full of bouncy castle kit and was parked outside the victim's family home when the arsonist struck in the early hours of Saturday, June 20.

The loss of the vehicle and equipment totalled £11,000.

And now West Midlands Police has released an appeal calling for anyone who has any information on the blaze to come forward.

The force has released some of the footage and said the fire caused "significant damage to the van and the contents, however fortunately no one was injured".

Conrad Ennis was woken up shortly after 1am on June 20 by a popping noise and and thought someone was trying to steal the van in Thompsons Road.

But when he looked out of the window he saw the vehicle, and equipment inside, were ablaze.

The 25-year-old phoned 999 before running downstairs and tried to fight the flames with the garden hose while his seven-year-old son also woke up and went outside to watch the commotion.

Explosions tore through the van, which contained equipment including bouncy castles, blowers and crash mats, ready for a full day of parties starting at 7am that day.

Neighbours had already raised the alarm and the fire brigade arrived within a matter of minutes.

Conrad, who passed on the CCTV footage of the incident to West Midlands Police, said at the time: "The main thing is that everyone is safe and well. The van is a product you can buy again but the birthdays and other occasions organised by families trying to make the day special for their little ones during the lockdown can never be replaced.”
