A new swimming session dedicated to improving the wellbeing of individuals with disabilities and their families is being trialled in Coventry.

The Wave is hosting an informal session called Quiet Time for people of all ages and forms of disability on Wednesday, October 14 between 5pm and 7pm.

CV Life, who operate the waterpark, are running the socially-distanced session with support from Coventry City Council and Sense - a charity that supports those living with complex disabilities.

The two-hour pilot will see visitors given exclusive access to the facility.

The lights will be dimmed, music switched off, as well as the opportunity to interact with sensory equipment in the Wave Pool and Lazy River, along with access to some of the facility’s rides.

Mandip Sehmi, Disability Sports Development Officer at CV Life, said: “Many individuals with complex disabilities will have had to shield over the past few months from Covid-19, and we want this pilot event to instil a dose of normality for them.

“Some people - particularly those with underlying health conditions - are understandably nervous about heading back out into society, but this event at The Wave is about creating a comfortable environment for individuals with disabilities and for them to have a change of scenery and socialise with others who they can relate to.

“The session is open to anybody with any form of disability and their family members, and is also an opportunity for them to offer their feedback, which will play a key role in developing the sessions over the coming months.”

Quiet Time bookings must be made online, prior to visiting the waterpark via The Wave’s online booking system.

All sessions at The Wave are operating in line with current Government guidelines, and information regarding visitor guidance and additional safety measures can also be found on The Wave’s website.

Go CV pricing is also available for Quiet Time sessions.
