Severn Trent bosses have apologised for the 'river' which has led to a main road in Bedworth being closed.

Elderly residents have struggled to negotiate the flooded areas around Johnson Road and Chapel Street over the past five days.

They have also been unable to access bus services as the road has been closed off.

Residents in the area have had to put up with works taking place in the early hours, including 4.30am on Saturday morning, as Severn Trent struggled to get to grips with a burst main.

"It has been a nightmare," said a resident, who did not want to be named.

"Not only has the road been closed but there has been a river running along it.

"I have had to help old dears get their way around it - it has been going on for days."

The householder claimed they were awoken on Saturday morning to works being carried out.

"You shouldn't be having people working at 4.30 in the morning," the resident added.

"They were looking for the bit in the pipe that had burst, but said they struggled to find it."

The resident added that, as a result of the works, there are four to five holes left in the road, surrounded by mud.

They said: "We were promised that a road cleaning service would be provided and a man from Severn Trent arrived and had no idea of what had been happening, with a pressure washer, which in his words 'would only be fit to clean a drive'.

"He had no idea of the mess on the road and said himself it needed to be cleared of mud and debris.

"This has been going on so long now. We just want it to end."

Roadworks return to flooded Bedworth street

Roadworks are set to return to a Bedworth street which was flooded due to a burst pipe earlier this month.

Residents in Chapel Street and Johnson Road were faced with a "river" of water running along the road and the closure of part of the road also caused problems for motorists and bus services.

The road was shut for a number of days with Severn Trent apologising for the inconvenience. and Now workers are set to return to the same site from Tuesday, September 29, to carry out surfacing works.

Warwickshire County Council say the work, which was already planned before the leak, will last for around 10 days and two-way traffic lights will be in place between 9am and 3pm.

A diversion will be in place via Regent Street, Marston Lane, Leicester Road and Rye Piece Ringway, and vice versa.
