The 'Demon Time Midlands' event is being advertised on social media despite Covid-19 restrictionsAn e-flyer advertising “Coventry’s biggest freshers party” has sparked surprise and alarm after being widely shared online.
The event entitled ‘Demon Time Midlands’ is billed as “the party you have been waiting for after lockdown!” - with students said to be travelling to the rave from all over the region.
Nightclubs are currently shut due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with no reopening date given by the Government, and the ‘rule of six’ applies to parks, pubs and restaurants as infection rates creep back upwards.
The event is listed on an Eventbrite page.
The listing on the ticketing website says “this event will 100% sell out” and students will be attending from more than 20 universities across the Midlands and around the country.
Giveaways include free shots on entry, complimentary unlimited sweets and a prize for the best-dressed fresher, according to the advert.
A spokesman for Coventry University said he was aware of the flyer but was unsure if it was real or a hoax.
However, Eventbrite, which bars ‘illegal and inappropriate activities’ has allowed the listing to stand.
Tickets were listed for sale at between £3 for a ‘super early bird’ and £15 for VIP, though they were listed as ‘sold out’, and a date was given as October 23, 2020, though this appears to be a provisional entry.
A spokesman said: "The organisers are indicating on their event page that they are willing to change the data and venue to align with government guidelines."
CoventryLive has approached the listing's creator for comment via Eventbrite.
