Police are urging motorists to block their driveways to stop criminals stealing cars

Police are urging car owners to be vigilant following a rise in thefts across North Warwickshire.

They say that Fiat and Ford models are the most commonly targeted, especially Ford Fiestas and Fiat 500/595 Abarth.

But a number of Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail and Vauxhall Corsas have also been stolen over recent weeks.

Officers say that thieves are targeting the cars parked in different places including driveways, car parks and public roads.

A post on North Warwickshire Police's page on Facebook urges all owners to be on their guard - and to take measures to ensure they do not become the next victims.

"If possible, we'd encourage owners to park their vehicles in garages or block them on driveways to deter further thefts," the post reads.

"You should also consider using a visible theft deterrent system such as steering wheel locks, immobilisers, trackers, Faraday pouches or bags if the vehicle is keyless entry."
