A young child at a Coventry primary school has tested positive for coronavirus.

It comes as cases rise in the city, mirroring a national trend.

It’s just a few weeks since schools reopened to all pupils after closing at the start of the Covid-19 lockdown in March.

The latest case involves a child in Year One at Parkgate Primary School in Holbrooks.

Parents of all children in Year One at the school have been told that their child must self-isolate for 14 days as a precaution.

Children in other year groups are to go to school as normal.

It’s the latest Coventry school to confirm a case of coronavirus since pupils returned.

Coventry City Council confirmed the number of cases in schools at the end of last week.

They said a total of 18 cases had been confirmed then among staff members whilst five pupils had tested positive.

The confirmed cases were across eight primary schools, five secondary schools and one special school.

Two year groups in isolation after positive Covid case at Coventry primary school

Image

Two whole year groups at a Coventry primary school are having to isolate for 14 days as a positive coronavirus case has been recorded.

Pupils in Year One and Year Three at Ernesford Grange Primary School have been told to remain at home in self-isolation until September 25.

But their close contacts are allowed to continue with normal activities - providing they are well, and symptom free.

It comes after these year groups were said to be "in close contact with the affected individual."

At this time, it is not known if the positive case came from a pupil or a member of staff.

Parents of pupils in these year groups were made aware of the positive case in a letter, sent from school headteacher Ian Taylor today (Monday, September 14).
